It is true?

One never knows whether or not to take a band's name literally. Do these chaps have imaginary friends? Would they like imaginary friends? or are they being cocky to those who have imaginary friends? I'm unsure.

What I do know is they're rocking up our ne1fm live session this Wednesday 7-9.

Tune in and find out.

Moving on up

Last year I went to see some bands play in a trailer outside of The Centre for life (Oxjam). It was bloody freezing, but a special little band made my ears prick up and moved me from a foot tap to a full blown bottom wiggle.

You got it, that band were The Flytes.

There's something lush about these guys. I am a BIG fan. You may have noticed they are often on the Live Session, and have played the last NE1 Live Session on the road (Well, in the Centurian)

Not only does their music make you rock around in circles, in uncontrolable madness, they are generally gorgeous lads - like really down to earth - the kinda lads you can have fish and chips with at the beach! mmm fish and chips...

So it's your chance to see these superstars next weekend (get in there while the tickets are only a fiver!);

The Flytes plus support, Newcastle Carling Academy, Saturday, November 8. Doors 7pm. Tickets £5 available at www.newcastle-academy.co.uk, Carling Academy box office or by contacting the band through myspace or e-mail.

Can you Runwell?

I had an absolute hoot with Runwells Wednesday gone. Not only did I learn that in order to win the heart of a woman, all you need is a bowl of soup with a poached egg, accompanied by a pork pie/ sausage roll, I also caught some tips on what is really happening out there on the NE music scene...

... I tell you there's something brill going on out there, and that something brill is Runwells (be sure not to call them Ruwells or The runwells!).

These kids have only been together for a month, and they are like a big party in a picnic basket. Bursting with enough energy to chop down Christmas trees for the whole of Newcastle and personally carry them to your front door, they are a breath of fresh air. Not only musically. They are honestly cracking lads. I love it when I invite guests to the studio who have some craic in them. There is so much love between these guys, it warms the cockles of my soul. And I hope yours too.

I'm giving you the chance to see Runwells live on 5th December at World Head Quatrers. It's the NE1fm Live Session Christmas party, and they'll be playing live, and being broadcast live on the wireless form 7pm-11pm.

Keep reading for more info in the coming weeks.

Big love

Rubbish

Yes, I've been totally rubbish at this blog lark. But I've turned over a new leaf, and before New Year, so that's surely worth some brucy bonus points? I now pledge to let you know all about the goings on in the NE1fm Live Session ... for example we have two new chairs to go along side our funky session sofas ... now you wouldn't have known that without me, no?!

More to come.

Stay tuned.

Were Shepherd?

Were they any good? Hell yeah! What lovely guys to grace the NE1fm studio this past Wednesday on the Live Session.

Two guys swanned in, one heavily bearded (is that even a word) and produced some beautiful music. The main issue of the night was how to describe the sounds they were making. I couldnt. Laura couldnt (except "fantastic") and heck the guys themselves dont really know where to put themselves. And that's what's "fantastic" about it. They draw their influences from so many places, and are constantly evolving. Heck they even swap instruments mid-set for no other reason than to see what difference it makes to the sound! They've just added a guy to the band who is going to introduce electro loops and beats.... now considering to listen them on tonights show they almost had a Simon and Garfunkle vibe going on..... so adding electronica??? Its just exciting... and to me, that's what it's all about. Going out there and making something exciting, different and original. Don't pigeon hole yourself. Go out and make music for you, that feels right, and isn't dictated by the scene around you. Newcastle is full of hair cuts bands.

Bands like Is Shepherd are the future for music at the moment, and I can confidently say these guys are flying the flag (although they'd probably let you help design the flag if you asked!)

Check out their myspace: http://www.myspace.com/isshepherd for quick clips of their tunes.... Or even better, check out their even better website www.isshepherd.com

Their record is available to buy in all local record shops... I've got my copy!

Pie and peace

Baaaaaaaa.....

Do you like sheep? If so you may want to tune into Is Shepherd - our resident Live Session band tomorrow from 7-9pm. These guys are totally hot - so tune into 102.5fm or www.ne1fm.com

Snippet from the band;

We work with the tools at our disposal, which at first was a melodic rock trio. We’ve added extra vocals, melodica, violin, synths, drum loops, mandolin. Sometimes we swap instruments; sometimes we stop playing and bash bits of percussion. We get bored with the usual approaches and want to try new stuff. We’re sometimes quiet and sometimes very loud; sometimes we’re contemplative, sometimes we’re angry, sometimes we just want to dance.

Orange unsigned act

There are sooooo many of our previous Live Session guests who have sent messages to ask for our support in getting them on T4 in November. Birds Vs Planes, The Chevrolites, Sandhill and Back Seat Angel are to name just a few who are battling it out and asking for your votes to get them onto the box this year.

Why not sign up, log in and give some of the guys your support ...

Hip Hip ...

... Hoooray!

Wow, the Live Session now has it's very own blog. How about that for swish? Myself and Ally are both very excited about bringing you previews and reviews of our delightful live bands and artists each and every week.

We'd also love you to post comments and tell us who you liked and more importantly, who you'd like us to get on the show and give a good grilling to!

Stay tuned (102.5fm and www.ne1fm.com each Wednesday... 7-9pm)
